Job Summary:

Gray Television, Inc. is seeking an experienced and dedicated Assistant News Director to lead our award-winning news team. As a key member of our newsroom, you will be responsible for overseeing daily news coverage, breaking news, and digital content decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the daily editorial process and on-air execution of newscasts, ensuring high-quality content across all platforms.
• Manage the daily operation of the newsroom, guiding coverage and making strategic decisions to drive engagement.
• Assist with planning, staffing, training, and performance evaluations for the News Department.
• Cultivate and mentor reporters and MMJs to enhance writing and storytelling skills.
• Direct newsroom operations and schedules, ensuring seamless execution of newscasts and digital content.
• Collaborate with producers to ensure quality control and brand consistency.
• Work with the News Director and other managers to establish newsroom goals and develop strategies to achieve them.
• Develop and implement news coverage strategies for the station and digital platforms.
• Critique newscasts and website content daily to correct errors, improve coverage, and provide feedback to news staff.
• Provide content and daily plans for all of Gray Television's streaming and digital platforms.
• Help gather sources and stories for newscasts and MMJs.
• Take charge of specials, projects, and live events as assigned.

Requirements:

• BA in Journalism or a minimum of years of experience in a television newsroom.
• Strong management, communication, and people skills to supervise and interact daily with staff and the community.
• Proven leadership ability and creativity in news content creation.
• Knowledge and understanding of using various digital and social platforms.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in high-stress situations.
• Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Optional bilingual - Spanish.
