About the Role

The School Psychologist plays a critical part in ensuring the educational and emotional well-being of students at Alexandria City Public Schools. This position requires expertise in assessing students' cognitive, adaptive, and social-emotional abilities, interpreting results of psychological studies, and developing strategies to address special education needs.

Responsibilities
  1. Assess students' functional capabilities and home environment to determine student's functional level and develop recommendations.
  2. Communicate with students, parents, teachers, and other personnel to evaluate situations, solve problems, and resolve conflicts.
  3. Compile information from various sources to produce detailed evaluation reports in compliance with established guidelines.
  4. Consult with teachers, parents, and outside professionals to provide requested information, develop plans for services, and make recommendations.
  5. Implement evidence-based interventions to promote student success.
  6. Collaborate with community agencies to ensure effective programs support students experiencing difficulties.
  7. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Educational Background: A Master's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Certifications/Licenses: A valid Virginia Department of Education license with an endorsement in School Psychology, or eligibility to obtain one, is necessary.
  • Experience: Job-related experience within the specialized field is required.
