Senior Surgical Technologist

Position Overview
The Senior Surgical Technologist is accountable for the preparation and organization of the surgical environment, ensuring the effective handling of instruments during procedures, maintaining a sterile field, and adapting to evolving conditions throughout surgical interventions. This role requires a thorough understanding of surgical techniques and principles, along with the ability to mentor and collaborate with management and educational teams on training curricula.
Key Responsibilities
- Supplies sterile instruments and materials throughout surgical operations.
- Conducts surgical counts for sponges, needles, and instruments.
- Assembles surgical tables with the necessary tools, sterile supplies, and medications for each procedure.
- Assists in the positioning of patients during surgeries, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Establishes and maintains a sterile and secure surgical environment.
- Actively participates in the development and management of preference cards through effective communication with surgeons and equipment management.
- Collaborates with surgeons to optimize instrument sets by suggesting modifications, such as consolidating instruments or adding frequently used items.
- Engages in cost management discussions with surgeons, providing insights on product usage and waste reduction strategies.
- Preferred Associate's Degree in a relevant field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in independent surgical technology practice is required.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is mandatory within 90 days of hire.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or as a Tech in Surgery (TS-C) from the National Center for Competency Testing is required upon hire.
- Ability to lift weights from pallet to waist occasionally up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to carry weights from waist to waist occasionally up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to lift weights from waist to chest occasionally up to 10 lbs.
- Ability to lift weights from waist to overhead occasionally up to 5 lbs.
- Ability to push and pull weights occasionally up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent standing and walking required.
- Occasional bending and trunk rotation may be necessary.
