Reporting to the Vocational Nursing Program Director, the faculty member will provide expertise in the subject matter and deliver clinical instruction in accordance with an approved course syllabus, utilizing effective teaching methodologies while fostering student retention and satisfaction.
Responsibilities include assessing student performance throughout the course and documenting all course-related activities within the timelines established by the university.
Key Responsibilities:
Availability on Saturdays and/or Sundays for 8 or 12-hour shifts.
Deliver clinical and/or theoretical instruction effectively using provided course materials.
Develop innovative teaching strategies to engage students and enhance their clinical judgment skills in real-world settings.
Facilitate learning experiences that integrate theoretical knowledge with practical patient care management, encouraging active participation in professional nursing roles.
Act as a clinical resource by managing pre- and post-conferences, encouraging students to reflect on their clinical experiences.
Create a professional environment that promotes student success through essential nursing characteristics: accountability, adaptability, passion, and integrity.
Support student success by demonstrating flexibility in teaching style and schedule, while exhibiting a genuine passion for education and student engagement.
Stay current with knowledge relevant to nursing duties assigned.
Participate in departmental meetings and shared governance committees.
Qualifications:
Current and active California license as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is required.
A Bachelor's degree is required.
A minimum of four (4) years of bedside or clinical nursing experience within the last five (5) years.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Previous experience in an Obstetrics (OB) setting, hospitals, or skilled nursing facilities is preferred.
Prior teaching experience is advantageous.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Up-to-date immunization records are necessary.
Compensation ranges from $40-$50/hr, depending on experience and education.
Work Environment:
Standard office/classroom/lab or clinical setting.
Responsibilities are typically performed in an office/classroom/lab/clinical environment while seated at a desk or computer workstation.
The work environment may include skills labs or bedside settings as required by the program.
Incumbents may experience frequent interruptions, noise from conversations or office equipment, and demanding timelines.
Physical Demands:
Incumbents regularly sit for extended periods.
Must possess the physical ability to perform assigned duties.
Proficient in operating electronic keyboards and other office equipment.
Effective verbal communication skills are essential for answering phones and providing clear information.
Ability to read fine print and operate computers accurately.
Ability to comprehend voices over the phone and in person.
Able to lift, carry, and/or move objects weighing between 10-25 pounds as necessary.
