Job SummaryThe Pediatric Counselor will be responsible for providing comprehensive counseling services to patients and their families, including assessments, treatment plans, and supportive counseling. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults, and will be knowledgeable in child development and assessment tools.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct face-to-face sessions with patients to complete thorough assessments and develop treatment plans.
- Provide supportive counseling, crisis intervention, and brief therapy to patients and their families.
- Work with patients and team members to maximize patients' potential for healthy coping responses to challenging situations.
- Make community referrals as needed and serve as a liaison between the medical staff and patients/families.
- Collaborate with team members to maximize discharge planning and patient progression.
- Participate in clinical training and supervision as needed.
- Provide direct social work services to patients and families, including assistance with social and practical environmental problems.
- Provide emotional support to patients and families who may exhibit feelings of anxiety and stress precipitated by illness and hospitalization.
- Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited social work program or a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling - Licensed Professional Counselor.
- 3 years' experience post-master's preferred, with experience in pediatric counseling/therapy.
- Knowledge in child development, assessment tools, and DSM-V.
- Willingness to participate in a multidisciplinary team and seek opportunities to learn and develop clinical skills.
- Licensed to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, and/or Licensed Professional Counselor-Mental Health in the Commonwealth of Virginia (LCSW, LPC, LPC-MH).
The job requires sitting for prolonged periods, standing/traveling, and use of assistive devices. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills are required, as well as attention to detail and ability to lift/push/pull.
