Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Substitute School Nurse to join our team at Great Hearts Academies. As a Substitute School Nurse, you will be responsible for providing temporary and emergency care for students and staff, promoting health education and preventive health practices, and serving as a health advocate for students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students or staff according to school policy and procedures.
  • Serve as a health advocate for students and notify parents of accidents or illnesses.
  • Administer medications according to school policy and procedures.
  • Perform screening procedures as required by Arizona Department of Health and school policy.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
  • Attend Admission Review & Dismissal (ARD) meetings of students with identified health needs.
  • Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
  • Communicate regularly with school administrators regarding health services issues.
  • Enforce procedures to ensure proper program administration according to school policy.
  • Supervise other school personnel as designated by the campus headmaster to have responsibility for assisting students with health needs.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Arizona Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in health services area.
  • Report potential health and safety hazards to school administrators.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license from the Arizona Board of Nursing.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Substitute nurse will obtain hearing and vision certification.
  • Substitute nurses will have limited SNAP access.

  • One (1) year nursing experience.

Clearance and Physical Functions

Must complete Arizona fingerprint clearance and background check. Requires standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 50 pounds approximately.
