Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at Washington University in St. Louis. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing routine and complex microscopy procedures under the general supervision of the laboratory manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct sample preparations for electron microscopy, including tissue fixation, processing, embedding, thick sectioning, and staining techniques for light microscopy, ultra-thin sectioning, and grid preparation.
  • Perform electron microscopy observation and digital and conventional photography procedures.
  • Perform special electron microscopy procedures in the preparation of whole-tissue specimens, cytology, and hematology specimens and cultured cell samples.
  • Perform quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoot malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary.
  • Assist with recording data and tracking instrument usage.
  • Perform basic laboratory maintenance such as washing glassware, and preparing solutions and replenishing stock solutions as needed.
  • Recognize problem situations and participate in problem-solving; inform supervisor of unusual situations and request technical assistance.
  • Comply with all regulatory and client requirements for testing and documentation.
  • Assist electron microscopy manager in training and assisting others in use of equipment in the electron microscopy laboratory.
  • Participate in relevant continuing education; mandatory participation in weekly lab meeting.
  • Assist laboratory manager with other duties and special projects as needed.
Requirements:
  • Associate degree
  • No specific certification is required for this position
  • No specific work experience is required for this position

  • Bachelor's degree
  • College Of American Pathologists (Cap)/Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (Clia) Clinical Electron Microscopy Laboratory (1 Year)
  • Skills: Cell Cultures, Continuing Learning, Cytology, Instrument Troubleshooting, Laboratory Maintenance, Laboratory Medicine, Quality Evaluation, Specimen Preparation, Staining Techniques, Time Management, Tissue Fixation, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM)
