Nurse Manager Job Description

At Sodus Rehab & Nursing Center, we are seeking a skilled and compassionate Nurse Manager to join our team. As a key member of our nursing department, you will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of our nursing services.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and conduct shift staff meetings to identify and address problem areas in patient care.
  • Identify and implement corrective actions to improve patient care and services.
  • Make written and oral reports to the Director of Nursing as necessary.
  • Develop and implement methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Interpret nursing department policies and procedures to personnel, residents, and visitors.
  • Delegate administrative authority and responsibility to Charge Nurses.
  • Make daily rounds of assigned units to ensure quality care and safety.
  • Ensure emergency equipment and supply checks are completed each shift.
  • Participate in the orientation program for new nursing staff.
  • Complete written performance evaluations and initiate corrective action as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with nursing department policies and procedures.
  • Plan and schedule unit-based in-services to improve staff knowledge and skills.
  • Monitor nursing procedures to ensure efficient use of supplies and equipment.
  • Oversee the delivery of safe, efficient, and customer-oriented nursing services.
  • Ensure rooms are ready for new admissions.
  • Visit residents daily to observe and evaluate their physical and emotional status.
  • Review nurse's notes to ensure they are informative and descriptive of patient care.
  • Start and restart IVs as ordered and necessary.
  • Assist staff nurses in monitoring seriously ill residents.
  • Ensure compliance with medication administration, storage, and control procedures.
  • Monitor medication passes and treatments to ensure compliance with physician orders and facility policy.
  • Review medication administration records for completeness and accuracy.
  • Inspect nursing treatment areas daily to ensure they are clean and safe.
  • Participate in the implementation of the facility's quality improvement program.
  • Participate in facility surveys and committee meetings as requested.
  • Adhere to employee health, safety, security, and corporate compliance programs.
  • Participate in the implementation and maintenance of the Infection Control program.
  • Ensure personnel follow established procedures for the use and disposal of personal protective equipment.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and broken furniture to the Maintenance Department.
  • Receive annual physicals and screenings for tuberculosis.
  • Conduct all activities within the resident abuse prevention manual.
  • Cooperate with investigations regarding employee health, safety, security, and corporate compliance programs.
  • Report accidents and incidents to the Supervisor immediately.
  • Correct unsafe or hazardous conditions, and report them to the Supervisor if unable to correct.
  • Conduct all activities within established safety, security, and infection control procedures and guidelines.
  • Observe and respond to standing security precautions, devices, and alerts.
  • Respond to fire and disaster drills and emergencies.
  • Ensure personnel performing tasks with potential exposure have attended in-service training.
  • Ensure personnel follow established infection control procedures when isolation precautions are necessary.
  • Ensure personnel follow established procedures for the use and disposal of personal protective equipment.
  • Ensure residents wear appropriate identification bracelets.
  • Assist in the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) process.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred).
  • Current registration and license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state employed in.
  • Peripheral IV certification.
  • Two years of clinical nursing experience.
  • One year of experience in a management position (preferred).
  • One year of experience in geriatrics and subacute population.
  • CPR/BLS certified.
