Job Overview

Position Summary

The Physician Assistant (PA) will work under the supervision of the Attending Physician to deliver comprehensive medical and surgical care to patients within the department, both in inpatient and outpatient environments. The PA will support the supervising provider in managing patient care, conducting evaluations, and performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This role is essential in ensuring high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective patient care.


Key Responsibilities

Effective Communication

  • Exhibits proficiency in medical terminology and procedures.
  • Engages with colleagues, supervising physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals for collaborative care.


Patient Care Management

  • Works alongside the provider and healthcare team to deliver care across various settings for assigned patients.
  • Assesses and interprets patient data, considering age-specific needs.
  • Conducts patient evaluations, gathers health histories, performs physical examinations, and develops comprehensive assessments.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests, prescribes medications, and implements treatment plans.
  • Documents all patient interactions and care provided in the electronic medical record (EMR) promptly.
  • Monitors patient responses to treatment and recommends adjustments as necessary.
  • Assists in procedures under the guidance of the attending physician.
  • Initiates emergency interventions as needed until a physician arrives.
  • Facilitates patient referrals as appropriate.
  • Prepares patients for procedures, including education and necessary preparations.
  • Contributes as a first or second assistant in surgical settings.
  • Develops discharge plans for surgical patients.

Clinical Development Initiatives

  • Engages in performance improvement activities to enhance practice standards.
  • Contributes to the formulation of policies and procedures.
  • Participates in quality assurance and healthcare quality committees.
  • Involves in audits of advanced practice healthcare techniques.
  • Acts as a primary contact for various hospital departments regarding patient management.


Compliance and Safety

  • Reports safety incidents promptly and participates in safety training.
  • Maintains compliance with state and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Ensures all necessary certifications and licenses are current.
  • Completes all mandatory training within specified timeframes.

Qualifications

Education
Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies - Required

Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program and National Certification - Required


Certifications and Licenses
Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) - Required

Arizona State Licensure as a Physician Assistant - Required

BLS Certification (American Heart Association) - Required

ACLS Certification - Required for hospital practice

Fingerprint Clearance Card application number - Required upon hire

Fingerprint Clearance Card - Required within 90 days of hire
