As an Optician at BJ's Wholesale Club, you will be responsible for dispensing spectacles and other optical products to both adults and children, working with prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists. You will advise and assist patients with various types of lenses and spectacle frames, including style, weight, and color.
Key Responsibilities- Verify order data entry and compare Rx to original Rx provided from the doctor, ensuring all information entered in the system is accurate.
- Deliver sales by providing excellent Member service in person and over the phone, explaining procedures included under the exam fee and maintaining a friendly and pleasant demeanor with customers.
- Take measurements, assure correct frame selection for Rx power, read prescriptions on the lensometer, and notify patients of product readiness and advancement of the order in the system.
- Strive to deliver sales and metric goals by educating patients on the benefits of available products and recommending those that will improve their visual needs.
- Engage with members in front of Optical during downtime.
- Adhere to all privacy and confidential company policies and procedures, including HIPAA, and provide support to Members in making eyeglass adjustments and repairs.
- Assist Optical Manager with opening and closing procedures, ensuring accurate funds are collected and payments are made at the point of service.
- Must be licensed to work as an optician within the State and keep license up to date and active.
- Knowledge of optical products and business practices preferred.
- High school diploma, college degree, and/or big box wholesale, retail, and/or optical experience is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail required.
- Open shift availability required for full-time positions.
- At least 18 years of age.
The majority of the time is spent moving about frequently on hard surfaces. There may be a need to occasionally position oneself to examine or scan merchandise, including bending, handling, pulling, reaching, and/or stooping. Frequently requires lifting objects up to 20 pounds. May require lifting and moving heavy and/or awkward objects more than 20 pounds with assistance.
Located in a comfortable indoor area with frequent exposure to temperature extremes and loud noises. There may be occasional exposure to cleaning agents.
Requires the use of Optical hand tools to adjust and repair Members' eyeglasses, which includes the insertion and removal of nose pads and small screws.
