Job Summary:We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Shelter Aide to provide support and assistance to clients in our shelter program. As a Shelter Aide, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of clients, maintaining a clean and sanitary environment, and providing excellent customer service.
Responsibilities:- Provide assistance and support to clients, including answering phone calls, inputting data into our tracking system, and encouraging clients to remain focused on their personal goals.
- Document daily activities, including client interactions, incidents, and donations received.
- Ensure that clients attend to all required chores and housekeeping activities, and document any rule infractions.
- Coordinate with volunteers and staff to ensure a smooth operation of the shelter.
- Prepare meals according to health department standards and receive and document donations and gifts.
- Review log entries for pertinent information and attend staff meetings as scheduled.
- Determine client eligibility and conduct intake paperwork for new clients.
- Conduct bed checks and ensure the safety and security of clients and the facility.
- Enforce program guidelines and policies, and contact appropriate agencies when crisis intervention is needed.
- Remain on duty if there is a problem with the oncoming shift or until another staff member arrives.
- Ensure the building is clean and sanitary at the end of a shift.
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Human service experience preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Sound judgment and excellent decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision or in a team environment.
- Positive attitude in working with high-risk clients, volunteers, and donors.
- Dependable, honest, and trustworthy.
- Ability to obtain food service sanitation certificate.
- Willingness to become familiar with and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
This position requires light to moderate physical work, including lifting 30 pounds. The individual must be able to remain stationary for some periods, use hands and fingers, communicate, move, and occasionally position themselves to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The work environment is an office setting with a low noise level.
