Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to join our team at Temple University Hospital. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Cardiovascular Surgery and Heart Lung Transplantation, with excellent endoscopic vessel harvesting expertise.

Responsibilities
  • Performs role of surgical assistant for a variety of surgical procedures under direct supervision of attending surgeon.
  • Performs role of circulating nurse and/or scrub nurse when required.
  • Assesses patient status, maintains a safe care environment, manages equipment use and delegates/directs care provided by Surgical Technologists and other support personnel.
Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree: Nursing (Required)
  • Graduate of accredited school of Nursing; successful completion of additional educational preparation specific to the role of RNFA including supervised clinical component (Required)
  • Three (3) years experience in Cardiovascular Surgery and Heart/Lung Transplantation (Required)
  • General Experience demonstrating skills in intraoperative nursing behaviors - handling tissue, using instruments, providing exposure, providing hemostasis (Required)
Preferred Qualifications
  • ACLS (Preferred)
  • CFA - Certified First Assistant (Preferred)
Work Schedule
  • Monday - Friday, 7a-3:30p
  • Call requirement - Every 3rd weekend call rotation (Friday 1530 to Monday 0700), weeknight call TBD
Unit Specific Information
  • Collaborate with the cardiovascular surgery team to provide high-quality patient care
  • Assist in a variety of cardiovascular surgical procedures, including CABG, Aortic Reconstruction, complex valve surgery, Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy, Ross Procedure, ECMO, vascular access, sternal closure, etc.
  • Comfortable operating within an academic-style cardiac program
  • Uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and clinical excellence

  • All placements at Temple Health either need to be vaccinated or have an agency approved medical or religious exemption for COVID-19.
