Detention Officer

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Detention Officer to join our team at Madison County, AL. As a Detention Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining order and supervising prisoners in the County jail during assigned shifts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and control prisoners individually and in groups
  • Conduct regular inspections of quarters, facilities, and work locations to ensure safety and security
  • Escorts prisoners to work assignments and maintains order during meals, bathing, and recreational activities
  • Ensures prisoners meet institutional standards of conduct and maintains records of prisoner activity
  • Performs related work as required
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Ability to think and act quickly during an emergency
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Must be at least 19 years of age
  • Must pass a Physical Agility Test
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen, physical examination, and criminal background check
Working Conditions

The Detention Officer will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to prisoners. The position requires prolonged standing, walking, and physical exertion. The Detention Officer must be able to climb multiple flights of stairs and push/pull wheeled carts in excess of 200 pounds.
