Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant II to join our team. This role is responsible for the processing, organizing, labeling, and transporting of specimens for laboratory testing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory procedures and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities- Specimen Processing: Receive, triage, order, label, and transport specimens for laboratory testing. Process specimens, aliquots, and/or slides/blocks according to procedure for samples tested in the laboratory as well as samples forwarded to referral laboratories.
- Laboratory Support: Assist pathologists and/or other laboratory personnel with specimen grossing as needed. Recognize problems (such as mislabels, incorrect tube type, etc.), identify causes, and take corrective action to solve basic problems.
- Phlebotomy and Specimen Collection: Perform phlebotomy and other specialized specimen collection procedures for patients. Maintain competency of techniques and principles required to perform quality phlebotomy services.
- Quality and Safety: Maintain a safe environment within the Laboratory, following all policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials, security, and emergency preparedness.
- Communication and Teamwork: Collaborate with all members of the patient care team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patient care information and data in a comprehensive manner. Serve as a preceptor to less experienced and/or new staff and students by utilizing skills and knowledge to help train and educate others.
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent education.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of related experience required.
- Certifications: Relevant certification (e.g., phlebotomy, medical laboratory assistant) is preferred.
This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced laboratory environment with frequent interruptions. The ideal candidate will be able to adapt to multiple ongoing priorities, including organizing workflow and prioritizing tasks.
