Key Responsibilities:

  1. Foster an inviting atmosphere where customers feel valued by addressing inquiries about products available in the department and throughout the store.
  2. Acquire and maintain comprehensive knowledge of products offered in the department to effectively respond to customer questions and provide recommendations.
  3. Utilize appropriate deli equipment to slice meats and cheeses according to customer specifications.
  4. Prepare deli, bakery, and bistro items as requested by customers using the correct equipment.
  5. Provide product samples to assist customers in discovering new items or answering their inquiries.
  6. Inform customers about deli, bakery, and bistro promotions.
  7. Ensure customers receive fresh products in the correct portion sizes to minimize waste.
  8. Recommend deli, bakery, and bistro products to meet customer needs.
  9. Operate all deli, bakery, and bistro equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, slicers, and ovens, in accordance with company policies.
  10. Prepare food in alignment with company standards.
  11. Accurately prepare, package, label, and manage inventory of ingredients.
  12. Monitor product quality to guarantee freshness and take appropriate actions regarding expiration dates.
  13. Utilize kitchen equipment such as stoves, scales, fryers, steamers, and food processors properly.
  14. Label, stock, and manage inventory of department merchandise.
  15. Report any discrepancies in product ordering or shipping to the department manager.
  16. Exhibit a positive demeanor.
  17. Stay informed about current, upcoming, seasonal, and special promotions.
  18. Comply with all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  19. Ensure proper temperatures are maintained in cases and coolers, and that temperature logs are kept up to date.
  20. Support safety initiatives by adhering to safety protocols and reporting unsafe conditions to management.
  21. Conduct preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying the appropriate personnel of any repair needs.
  22. Alert management to any customer or employee incidents.
  23. Report any safety risks, illegal activities, or suspicious behavior.

Must be capable of performing the essential functions of this role with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to manage stressful situations.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Basic math skills (counting, addition, and subtraction).
  • Possession of a current food handler's permit upon employment.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous retail experience.
  • Proficiency in a second language (speaking, reading, and/or writing).
