We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Library Branch Supervisor to join our team at the City of Cedar Rapids, IA. As a key member of our library staff, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our library branch, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise Daily Operations: Oversee the daily activities of our library branch, including supervising public service staff, providing general reference information to patrons, and interpreting library policies and procedures.
  • Lead by Example: Serve as a role model for other library staff, demonstrating de-escalation and conflict resolution skills in interactions with patrons.
  • Supervise Staff: Supervise the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Ensure Safety and Security: Ensure library grounds are safe and free of hazards, and respond to inquiries and resolve customer complaints regarding library policies, rules, standards, and procedures.
  • Provide Training and Development: Provide staff training as requested in areas such as de-escalation skills, and report safety concerns through library systems in place.
Requirements
  • Education: College degree in Library and Information Science, Social Work, Education, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience: Three to five years of experience working in social work, counseling, street outreach, human services, management, or a similar field.
  • Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certification: Certification in empathy-based approaches, such as the Mandt Program, Mental Health, CPR, etc.

Monday 11:45am-8:15pm, Tuesday 11:45am-8:15pm, Wednesday 8:30am-5:00pm, Friday 8:45am-5:15pm, Saturday 8:45am-5:15pm
