Job Summary:

This position is responsible for inspecting, rebuilding, and repairing freight cars. Inspect railcar frames and bodies for holes, cracks, and other defects. Inspect safety appliances, including hand holds, sill steps, grab iron, brake platforms, and running boards. Inspect wheels to ensure that rim treads, plates, hub axles, and bearings are in good repair.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, replace, and repair air brake pipes, valves, gaskets, air hoses, and other air-related equipment.
  • Operate electrical and gas welding equipment to join various metals and alloys.
  • Operate acetylene/MAPP torches for cutting and/or shaping metal parts.
  • Operate specialized off-highway motor vehicles, including forklift trucks, mobile cranes, track mobiles, and UTVs.

  • Extreme all-weather conditions.
  • Walk and perform work on uneven surfaces.
  • Safety-sensitive work environment.
  • Loud noise and fumes.
  • Work on or around heavy/moving machinery.

Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to report for duty at the designated work location.
  • Able to work safely in extreme all-weather conditions.
  • Able to work the assigned shift/hours.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to visually distinguish colors and discriminate between verbal and non-verbal sounds.
  • Ability to use hands and use hand tools to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning, and pulling.

Training and Development:

  • Company-paid on-the-job training.
  • Welding certification requirements will need to be obtained for the position.
