Job Overview:

Automotive Parts Supervisor
The Automotive Parts Supervisor is responsible for ensuring a profitable return on the dealership's investment in parts inventory.

This role is achieved through effective purchasing strategies, meticulous inventory management, optimal staff deployment, and strategic pricing and merchandising.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Set and pursue departmental goals and objectives.
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate the performance of parts department personnel.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget for the parts division.
  • Maintain a well-balanced inventory that meets the needs of service operations, body shop, wholesale clients, and retail customers.
  • Establish pricing strategies that ensure profitability while fostering customer loyalty.
  • Determine optimal inventory levels for maximum turnover.
  • Ensure effective inventory turnover rates.
  • Monitor and adjust stock levels to reduce excess inventory.
  • Ensure proper tagging of parts for full credit recovery from manufacturers.
  • Oversee stock ordering processes.
  • Implement and enforce policies for special parts orders.
  • Analyze monthly sales, expenses, and inventory to meet profit targets.
  • Develop and manage a robust wholesale parts program to enhance profitability.
  • Ensure high-quality service is provided to both external and internal customers.
  • Collaborate with the service manager to ensure timely parts availability for internal jobs.
  • Participate in management meetings and conduct weekly departmental meetings.
  • Evaluate departmental operations and storage configurations for improved efficiency.
  • Provide technical support to parts department staff.
  • Monitor payroll records for parts department employees.
  • Ensure efficient processing of paperwork.
  • Direct shipping and receiving operations for timely processing.
  • Review daily reports and sales performance metrics.
  • Develop and utilize a report to track lost sales.
  • Lead outside parts sales efforts, including customer outreach initiatives.
  • Create and implement sales promotions.
  • Leverage manufacturer co-op advertising for inventory marketing.
  • Establish and enforce customer service guidelines to maximize satisfaction.
  • Address customer complaints promptly and in accordance with dealership policies.
  • Ensure all dealership purchases are accurately documented prior to payment.
  • Assist in the collection of overdue accounts.
  • Supervise custodial staff to maintain a clean work environment.
  • Enforce safety protocols, including training on equipment operation and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Stay informed about relevant federal, state, and local regulations affecting parts sales.
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and report any incidents immediately.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Minimum one year of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in an automotive parts department is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Some background in sales is preferred.
  • Willingness to learn the dealership's computer systems.
  • Ability to manage department profitability within dealership guidelines.
  • Professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Authorization to work in the USA is required.
