Join a team of over 2,600 professionals at Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) who connect citizens to services that enhance their lives. This role supports our partners at the Department of Public Safety (DPS), providing vital technical assistance to an agency focused on prevention, preparedness, response, recovery, enforcement, and education. The MNIT DPS team oversees numerous applications that serve 15 diverse public safety divisions across the state.
Position Overview:
As a Lead Systems Software Engineer at Minnesota IT Services (MNIT), you will be tasked with ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of information systems for the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS). Your duties will encompass the management, assessment, implementation, and maintenance of critical IT operations for the Infrastructure Management team, ensuring that core technologies and systems function seamlessly.
In this senior role, you will establish standards, review design specifications, and provide Tier III expertise to fellow engineers, particularly regarding Microsoft Windows servers hosted in cloud environments, disaster recovery strategies, system lifecycle management, security enhancements, and operational support.
Onsite Requirement:
This position necessitates the employee to be present at the work location one (1) day per week.
Minimum Qualifications:

This role requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience with computer technologies, specifically in Microsoft Server, cloud support, networking, and internetworking protocols.
Experience must include:
- Support for server operating systems (Microsoft Operating Systems)
- Experience with cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and GCP
- Proficiency in writing/managing infrastructure as code
- Experience with Azure DevOps
- Knowledge of modern authentication and troubleshooting
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Customer service skills including active listening, empathy, and problem-solving
A master's degree in Information Technology or a related field may substitute for three (3) years of experience, while a bachelor's degree may substitute for two (2) years, and an associate's degree may substitute for one (1) year.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Configuration of IIS
- Management and automation of SSL certificates using tools such as Win-Acme
- Understanding of LAN access protocols (e.g., Ethernet / IEEE 802.3)
- Familiarity with server management components (e.g., BMC, SIM, ADDM, SNMP, DNS, DHCP)
- Knowledge of LAN/MAN/WAN routing protocols including TCP/IP (IPv4, IPv6)
- Experience with SAN/NAS storage solutions including ISCSI technology
- Ability to automate tasks using PowerShell
