Athletic Equipment Coordinator

Job Summary
As an essential member of the UMass Amherst Athletics team, the Athletic Equipment Coordinator is responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing athletic clothing, equipment, and supplies. This role ensures the health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes by maintaining accurate inventories and related records of department equipment rooms. The coordinator will also work closely with the Athletics Business Office to secure necessary purchases for equipment needs, collaborate with apparel and equipment vendors regarding order-related issues, and perform related work as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Issue clothing, equipment, and supplies to student-athletes and staff.
- Prepare and maintain inventory records.
- Receive, launder, and disseminate practice, workout, and game apparel/uniforms.
- Organize uniforms for home and away contests, pack clothing and equipment for travel, and coordinate laundry services for away competitions as needed.
- Travel with the team to away contests to service equipment needs.
- Ensure that clothing and equipment meet Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
- Adhere to and execute the department's apparel and equipment contracts, develop orders with coaching staff from season-to-season, and enter ordering information into vendor websites.
- Receive and distribute packages and goods to athletic staff, prepare packages for shipment, and operate a motor vehicle to travel to vendors.
- Maintain a clean and organized equipment room and ensure proper storage of athletic clothing, equipment, and supplies.
- Foster and build relationships with coaches, staff, student-athletes, and vendors to ensure equipment needs are met.
Requirements
- A valid Class D driver's license.
- Knowledge of storekeeping methods and practices.
- Familiarity with the game of football.
- Ability to travel with the football team on weekends, nights, and holidays, and adjust work schedules to meet team requirements.
- Knowledge of industrial washing and drying machines, stain removal techniques, and simple arithmetic computations.
- Ability to maintain inventories, keep records, and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Physical ability to handle bulky or heavy stock items, equipment, and supplies, and deal tactfully with others.
- Preferred qualifications include Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) Certification and experience in fitting, repairing, and maintaining football safety equipment.
Work Environment
- Ability to balance, carry, pull/push, prolonged periods of standing, bending, travel to other campuses, driving, and lifting.
- Work may be performed in inclement weather.
- Ability to carry heavy and bulky items, up to 50 lbs.
Work Schedule
- 40 hours per week; hours vary depending on the demands of the position.
- Nights and weekends are required.
Salary Information
AFSCME Non-Exempt Grade 11.
