The Nurse Educator is a key member of the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland team, responsible for the educational needs of the acute care nursing staff. This includes planning and implementing didactic and clinical training programs for newly hired Acute Care RNs, with a focus on national patient safety goals, new treatment modalities, equipment, and technologies.
In cooperation with the management team and clinical nurse specialists, the education specialist is responsible for the day-to-day assessment of the educational needs and maintenance of competencies of the nursing staff. This includes identifying areas for improvement and developing strategies to address them.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement educational programs for Acute Care RNs, including didactic and clinical training
- Assess the educational needs of the nursing staff and develop strategies to address them
- Collaborate with the management team and clinical nurse specialists to ensure that educational programs meet the needs of the nursing staff
- Identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to address them
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of national patient safety goals and new treatment modalities
- MSN preferred, BSN required
- Current California RN license
- BLS, PALS preferred
- 3-5 years Acute Care experience
- Previous proven experience and expertise in teaching
- Basic proficiency with computer systems (word processing, spreadsheets, database)
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent teaching and interpersonal skills
- Sit: up to 6 hours/day
- Stand/Walk: up to 6 hours
- Bend/Stoop: up to 3 hours
- Reach: up to 6 hours
- Rep Use of UE/Grasp: up to 6 hours
- Lift/Push/Pull: 25 lbs, over 25# with assistance or equipment
