Job Overview:
The MRI Safety Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting MRI technologists to ensure secure care and efficient workflows within the MRI setting. This position is responsible for strictly following and enforcing safety protocols to maintain a secure environment for patients, families, non-MRI staff, and oneself. The MRI Safety Coordinator will assist in preparing and positioning patients for MRI examinations, facilitating procedures through direct patient interaction, including transportation, preparation, and organization of imaging rooms, along with other related support tasks. Additionally, the coordinator will manage phone inquiries and schedule MRI appointments, along with handling associated electronic and paper documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitates patient care as directed by the MRI technologist, virtual operations center, or physician, adhering to the multidisciplinary care plan for each patient.
- Assists in troubleshooting and maintaining equipment, ensuring that adequate supplies are available in the unit.
- Provides one-on-one patient safety monitoring as assigned, following established policies and procedures.
- Responsible for transporting non-controlled medications as required to meet clinic and unit needs.
- Welcomes patients upon arrival, assists with necessary paperwork, and transports them to the appropriate imaging areas.
- Schedules patient appointments as necessary.
- Prepares and processes imaging requests, routing them to the appropriate technical personnel.
- Handles telephone inquiries for the area and directs calls accordingly.
- Documents and compiles information based on patient interviews or physician input through typing, posting, and filing as needed.
- Assists in patient preparation and completion of examinations.
- Verifies patient schedules.
- Observes patients when required.
- Provides assistance in emergency situations.
- Supports patient positioning and lifting, as well as transportation when necessary.
- Maintains records and files as directed.
- Prints reports as required.
- Ensures all necessary supplies are available and stocked.
- Completes requests for supplies as needed.
- Collaborates with technical staff to ensure the completion of imaging studies.
- Engages with the Virtual Operations Center to finalize examinations.
- Conducts safety screenings for patients entering MRI suites.
- Adheres to safe practices within MR suites when applicable.
- Performs duties under the direct supervision of an MR technologist.
