Position Overview

Fragment Media Group is a leading source for original digital news, dedicated to delivering insightful reporting on the internet's evolving landscape. We focus on the narratives that shape the digital age through comprehensive journalism.

We are currently seeking motivated individuals with a passion for uncovering governmental information to apply for our Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) internship. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in the intricacies of FOIA, including the submission of requests, managing appeals, and extracting valuable insights from public records that intersect with technology and politics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with editors to brainstorm and develop innovative FOIA request ideas.
  • Submit multiple FOIA requests weekly and maintain an organized database of ongoing inquiries.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with agency FOIA officers to facilitate timely access to records.
  • Analyze and report on stories derived from received documents, assisting reporters with their FOIA needs.
  • Uphold journalistic integrity through rigorous fact-checking and adherence to ethical standards.

Qualifications:

  • At least two semesters of college or relevant newsroom experience.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Familiarity with Fragment Media Group's brand, internet culture, and current online trends. Experience in virtual teamwork is advantageous.
