POSITION SUMMARY:

MAB Community Services is looking for a full-time Behavioral Support Specialist to join our dedicated Behavior Department. This role involves taking a proactive stance in crisis prevention and intervention strategies within both educational and residential settings. The Behavioral Support Specialist will engage in data collection and analysis, the implementation and oversight of individualized behavior plans, and will receive guidance from a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Supervision will be provided by the Director of Behavior Supports, along with peer support during weekly departmental meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support for students, spending significant time in the educational environment to assist with behavioral incidents and classroom needs as directed by the Milieu Coordinator and Director of Behavior Supports.
  • Oversee the application of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) in assigned classrooms.
  • Utilize and exemplify the ARC framework in daily practices.
  • Collaborate with the residential supervisory team to ensure effective implementation and monitoring of PBIS across various programs.
  • Complete necessary documentation, including monthly notes and treatment plans.
  • Promote and manage the school-wide PBIS initiative.
  • Monitor and report on student engagement and participation in programming.
  • Contribute to the Restraint Prevention Committee.
  • Exhibit leadership and confidence in managing crises within the educational milieu.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of individualized behavioral programs for students with high needs.
  • Manage data collection and analysis processes, collaborating with other team members and a BCBA.
  • Participate in observations and functional assessments of challenging behaviors with BCBA support.
  • Engage in both day and residential programming, including leading group activities as necessary.
  • Ensure the creation of individualized materials, such as token boards and visual prompts, for both educational and residential programs.
  • Provide clear and concise verbal updates to parents, educators, and other stakeholders as required.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Expertise in implementing CPI, PBIS, and ARC treatment models.
  • Consistent professionalism and maintenance of appropriate boundaries with students and staff.
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and CPI.
  • Experience in crisis management techniques.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Strong collaborative skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Prior experience in a similar role is preferred but not mandatory.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree, subject to approval.
  • Some holiday shifts may be required.
  • A valid driver’s license is necessary.
  • Successful completion of a background check and drug screening prior to employment.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is required, with training provided upon hire.
