Job Description:
F fetch Specialty & Veterinary Emergency Centers of Fort Myers and Bonita Springs is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our Oncology team. As a key member of our veterinary care team, you will provide essential support while delivering high-quality care to pets diagnosed with cancer. Your commitment to patient care and client communication will play a vital role in helping families navigate this challenging journey.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure knowledge about safety standards in all areas of the veterinary hospital.
  • Properly and safely restrain animals.
  • Perform Temperature, Pulse, and Respiratory checks.
  • Input data into electronic medical record systems accurately and efficiently.
  • Remove sutures/staples/drains under assistance from veterinarians or experienced technicians.
  • Remove bandages carefully.
  • Perform nail trims, ear cleaning, and anal gland expression procedures as required.
  • Clean surgical instruments for sterilization and prepare them for wrapping.
  • Sterilize wrapped packs and pouches according to established protocols.
  • Properly set up fluid bags for IV or SQ administration (with technician assistance).
  • Assist in procedural preparation, maintain a timely start to procedures, and help ensure smooth workflow.
  • Set up for and clean up after procedures, maintaining equipment and ensuring its proper function.
  • Work with heating pads/blankets, scales, thermometers, otoscopes, clippers/blades, incubators, and perform daily maintenance on these items effectively.
  • Perform emergency procedures including control bleeding, administer oxygen therapy, and assist with CPR when needed.
  • Use laboratory equipment correctly, including CBC machines, chemistry analyzers, coagulation analyzers, microscopes, assays, etc.
  • Handle various types of laboratory specimens and assist with their submission to appropriate laboratories.
  • Support radiographic positioning and processing, setting up equipment and inputting patient information accurately.
  • Provide restraint for ultrasound procedures and input patient information correctly.
  • Maintain cleanliness, stocking, and proper care of hospital equipment.
  • Alert inventory manager regarding low medications and supplies.
