POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Engineer plays a crucial role in enhancing the functionality and reliability of all production and facility machinery. This is achieved through effective scheduling, support, and quality audits of all preventative maintenance tasks, along with providing training to Technicians to improve their maintenance skills. This managerial position primarily oversees maintenance operations in our Syracuse facility, manages coin-operated laundry services, and ensures the upkeep of buildings and grounds, all while fostering a positive and urgent work environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee all maintenance operations within the facility, reporting directly to the Director of Maintenance.
- Recruit, train, and lead the Technician team to ensure efficient completion of work orders.
- Conduct quality audits of Technician preventative maintenance work, offering constructive feedback and training.
- Adjust maintenance schedules as necessary to ensure timely repairs are executed.
- Manage all aspects of building and grounds maintenance for both facilities, including snow removal and landscaping.
- Collaborate with VPs on safety and accreditation matters, ensuring compliance with current standards.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Maintenance and maintain regular communication.
- Assist in managing parts inventory to support uninterrupted plant operations.
- Engage in weekly formal meetings with the Director of Maintenance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Frequent bending, lifting, kneeling, stretching, and reaching in various directions.
- Full dexterity with both hands and wrists, with regular walking throughout the facility.
- Capability to safely climb ladders and navigate gangways.
- Work conditions may involve small spaces, dust, fumes, temperature variations, and noise.
- Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods, typically up to 8 hours.
- Work schedule is approximately 50 hours per week, with potential for additional hours.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of five years of experience in repairing industrial processing equipment in an industrial setting or military background.
- At least two years of supervisory and maintenance management experience.
- Proficient knowledge of equipment, including electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Ability to read maintenance documentation in English.
- Prior experience in interpreting blueprints or electrical schematics.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
