Job Summary

MedStar Health is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide exceptional patient care in a dynamic and supportive environment. As a key member of our patient-centered care team, you will deliver high-quality care to patients and their families, working closely with registered nurses and other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and personal hygiene, including bathing, mouth care, dressing, skin care, positioning, feeding, ambulation, toileting, and range of motion activities.
  • Assist with patient mobilization and rehabilitation, use of crutches and walkers, and transfer/transport of patients in wheelchairs and stretchers.
  • Collect specimens; perform venipuncture/phlebotomy; and obtain EKGs.
  • Accurately take and record patient's vital signs, height and weight, pulse oximetry, point of care and waived testing, and other pertinent data or information in the patient's health record.
  • Perform routine sterile, non-sterile, and other treatments/activities identified by Unit/Hospital policy, including tube feedings; ostomy care; Foley Catheter care; perineal care; simple dressing changes and wound care; turning and positioning; postmortem care and transportation of body to the morgue; and assistance with the application, maintenance, and removal of traction, casts, splints, and exercise equipment.
  • Maintain the comfort, privacy, confidentiality, and dignity of each patient in the delivery of services.
  • Perform patient observation duty and prepare patients to be seen by providers.
  • Assist providers and registered nurses in patient examinations and procedures.
  • Rounds on all assigned patients based on established standards.
  • Participate in patient/family teaching as directed and respond to questions from patients, families, and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and respectful manner, referring them to appropriate personnel if necessary.
  • Report changes in the patient's condition to the registered nurse and care team, as necessary.
  • Ensure complete hand off to oncoming shift and obtain full hand off from outgoing shift.
  • Initiate and assist in CPR when indicated.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of patient rooms/environment by distributing and changing linen/towels, removing used meal trays, checking bed siderails and safety restraints, etc.
  • Assist with environmental services support such as linen management, trash removal, and cleaning patient rooms as needed.
  • Transport and/or escort patients during discharges, transfers, and/or medical appointments.
  • Complete errands such as delivering specimens to the laboratory, equipment, and supplies, etc., as required.
  • Receive and stock equipment and supplies and maintain orderly supply and utility rooms.
Qualifications
  • Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program.
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from the relevant authority.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification preferred.
  • Experience as a certified nursing assistant and general healthcare experience in acute care, long-term care, or other settings preferred.
