About the Role

The City of Charlotte is seeking a skilled Rail Car Maintenance Technician to join our team. As a key member of our Light Rail Vehicle Maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on Siemens Light Rail Vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including inspections, repairs, and replacements of vehicle components.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with vehicle systems, including propulsion, braking, HVAC, and electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance teams to ensure seamless operation of the light rail system.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment and following lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and best practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or higher in a related field preferred.
  • Three years of experience in a related field, such as mechanical or electrical maintenance, or completion of a relevant training program.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, work at heights, and perform tasks in confined spaces.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Availability to work a variety of shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
