Job Title: Autism Program Teacher of Elementary

At East Central Kansas Coop In Education, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Autism Program Teacher of Elementary to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Autism Program Teacher of Elementary will be responsible for assessing students' skills, developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and implementing instructional strategies to meet the unique needs of students with autism.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach students in small groups and one-to-one settings
  • Implement IEPs, assess students' performance, and track their progress
  • Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students' progress and goals
  • Discuss students' progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators
  • Supervise and mentor para-professionals who work with students with disabilities
  • Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade and after graduation

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Special Education or willingness to pursue a plan of study
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and administration
  • Organizational Ability
  • Kansas Certificate/License with endorsement in special education, waiver eligibility minimum

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Communication skills: discuss students' needs and performances with general education teachers, parents, and administrators
  • Critical-thinking skills: assess students' progress and use the information to adapt lessons to help them learn
  • Interpersonal skills: build positive working relationships with general education teachers, school counselors, administrators, and parents
  • Patience: work with students with special needs and different abilities
  • Resourcefulness: develop different ways to present information in a manner that meets the needs of students
