Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Dental Assistant to join our Oral Surgery team at Indiana University. As a key member of our team, you will provide chairside assistance to our dentists, ensuring the highest level of patient care and comfort during specialty dental and root canal procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Provide chairside assistance to dentists, passing instruments and holding devices as needed.
  • Assist in the administration of local anesthetic agents.
  • Take patients' blood pressure and maintain their vital statistics.
  • Provide preoperative care to patients, preparing them for surgery by positioning them comfortably and applying topical anesthetics.
  • Provide post-operative care and instructions to patients.
  • Instruct graduate students and pre-doctoral dental students on taking digital radiographs, cone beam radiographs, and cone beam scans.
  • Confirm that instruments are sterilized and working properly, and organize them for procedures and/or surgery.
  • Ensure that equipment used for dental procedures is sterilized and areas are clean and ready to receive new patients.
  • Assist the front office in scheduling follow-up visits.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of assisting in applicable specialty dental assisting.
  • Indiana X-Ray License upon date of hire.
  • Dental Assistant Certification upon date of hire (preferred).

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires sedentary work as well as extended durations of moving about the workplace. It requires the ability to move objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and the ability to discern between various objects and devices and to position patients.

Advertised Salary

$19.63 per hour based on experience.
