Trailer Mechanic Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Trailer Mechanic to join our team at Waste Connections. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our fleet of trailers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and repair trailers, including troubleshooting and fixing electrical and hydraulic systems, and handling brake repairs.
  • Perform mechanical repairs on Waste Connections vehicles, including welding and vehicle washing as part of maintenance duties.
  • Drive, load, and operate various collection vehicles and forklifts as required.
  • Ensure all vehicles comply with DOT, OSHA, and state and federal regulations.
  • Use diagnostic tools, overhead cranes, forklifts, and welding equipment.
  • Complete accurate vehicle documentation and repair orders.
  • Keep the truck shop workspace clean and organized.
  • Assist with special projects and support other shop personnel as needed.
Requirements:
  • At least 3 years of experience in general mechanical repairs.
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • A valid Class B commercial driver's license or the ability to obtain one.
  • An acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and the ability to meet all DOT requirements.
  • Knowledge of operating procedures and safety practices for refuse collection.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and municipal regulations related to refuse collection.
  • Skills in general and advanced vehicle repairs, including safely using hand tools and repair equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
  • The ability to quickly understand and adhere to safety requirements and provide training to other employees.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to read and understand technical manuals.
  • Physical capability for extensive activity, including lifting, pushing, and pulling objects over 50 pounds.
  • A willingness to work indoors and outdoors, sometimes in awkward positions or handling dirty tools.
