Pediatric Physical Therapist

Responsible for guiding assigned pediatric patients towards optimal functional abilities by facilitating and instructing motor skills.
SUPERVISION
- Reports to the Home Department Manager and the Director of Rehabilitation Services.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy is mandatory.
Licensure: Must be eligible for licensure in the State of Tennessee.
Experience: Prior experience in pediatric therapy is preferred.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Understanding of typical and atypical child development, strong clinical expertise, and excellent communication skills.
- Conducts evaluations of pediatric patients in line with established care standards. Performs independent consultations and assessments based on best practices. Identifies patient needs and strengths through thorough documentation. Completes comprehensive assessments based on physician orders and patient status. Reassesses ongoing patients as necessary. Makes informed decisions regarding care based on patient readiness and participation.
- Creates a tailored Plan of Care to enhance functional abilities and safety, as recorded in clinical documentation. Collaborates with patients and caregivers to set achievable goals. Establishes interventions and measurable outcomes that align with identified needs. Adjusts the Plan of Care based on patient progress and caregiver feedback.
- Delivers skilled therapy, continuously reassessing patient status to ensure high-quality care. Selects appropriate therapeutic techniques based on patient needs and clinical knowledge. Educates patients and caregivers on treatment protocols and ensures understanding through documentation. Plans for discharge from therapy based on patient progress and caregiver goals.
- Maintains accurate documentation of services in accordance with departmental standards. Writes clear and concise documentation that effectively communicates patient status and ongoing needs. Ensures all procedures and documentation meet rehabilitation standards.
- Coordinates patient care with interdisciplinary team members to ensure optimal outcomes. Makes referrals to other disciplines as needed and communicates effectively with all stakeholders.
- Supervises interventions provided by therapy assistants, ensuring compliance with professional guidelines. Reviews and updates care plans monthly.
- Educates caregivers on attendance and participation expectations. Modifies care plans as necessary based on caregiver involvement.
- Maintains professional relationships with other departments and demonstrates respect for all patients and colleagues.
- Engages in continuous professional development and assists in the training of others. Stays current with clinical knowledge and departmental operations.
- Participates in creating a learning environment for students from professional schools utilizing the rehabilitation department.
- Collaborates on projects with team members, contributing skills and fulfilling commitments.
- Demonstrates innovative thinking by seeking improvements in effectiveness and efficiency.
- Utilizes hospital resources responsibly and meets departmental productivity requirements.
- Independently manages patient scheduling and administrative tasks efficiently.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Light lifting, pushing, and pulling of 10-20 lbs occasionally, with frequent movement of lighter objects. Requires frequent sitting, walking, standing, and reaching.
