Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Adjunct Instructor to teach Geology and Geography courses at Joliet Junior College. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching and learning, and will be able to adapt to new and changing situations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach introductory Geology, Physical Geography, World Regional Geography, Human Geography, and/or Introductory Meteorology courses as needed.
  • Participate in course assessment and planning activities.
  • Be willing to teach online and/or hybrid courses if credentialed.
  • Employ effective and innovative teaching methods in the classroom and laboratory.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission.
  • Teach at other campus sites as needed.
  • Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract.
  • Assist in assessment and curriculum data application.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Geology, Geography or closely related field.
  • Credentialing, coursework, or experience related to Geology, Physical Geography, World Regional Geography, Human Geography, and/or Introductory Meteorology.
  • Three (3) years of teaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the college's core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral Degree in Geology or closely related field with the ability to teach Geology, Physical Geography, World Regional Geography, Human Geography, and/or Introductory Meteorology.
  • Three years' experience at the community college level.
  • Expertise in appropriate technologies for instruction.
  • Experience in teaching online and/or using course management programs.
  • Experience in course development and assessment, planning, quality and accreditation processes, and committee service.
  • Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Credentialed to teach online with Quality Matters experience.
  • English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence.
