Role Overview: The Medical Laboratory Scientist I conducts various laboratory tests in designated areas as licensed/certified.

The work typically involves analytical testing of blood and/or human biological samples.

Analytical laboratory testing generally necessitates a moderate to high level of theoretical and practical knowledge and expertise in the licensed area(s).

Depending on the department, various pre-and post-analytical work processes are included in the customary duties; on-call hours may also be required.

Adheres to laboratory policies and procedures; upholds quality control practices within the laboratory. Actively engages in exceptional customer service and takes responsibility for maintaining respectful relationships with all.

Value You Bring to the Team:
  • Conducts assigned pre-analytical tasks related to laboratory testing, which may involve general and analytical equipment maintenance, function checks and documentation; inventory management and supply stocking, specimen collection as necessary; biological specimen processing; cleaning and disinfecting of designated laboratory equipment and areas; quality control and calibration performance; and other pre-analytical tasks.
  • Executes all required tests and analytical procedures for the assigned department or work area efficiently and accurately, in accordance with established procedures, performance standards, and departmental competency standards. Participates in proficiency testing, consistently adhering to federal and state regulations as well as institutional policies.
  • Performs post-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, reporting results (including significantly abnormal results) in line with established procedures.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
  • Associates' degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or related field or equivalent education and training.
PREFERRED:Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological science, or related field.One year of Clinical Lab experience.LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
  • In licensure states, Laboratory Licensure in appropriate specialty(ies) for the department or location assignment as applicable to the state.
  • OR In non-licensure states, must hold a national certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist such as ASCP, AAB, or AMT unless grandfathered per state requirement.
