Responsibilities
Ensure the optimal performance and safety of linear accelerators, which includes calibration, quality assurance, and specialized dosimetry measurements. Collaborate with engineers on beam characterization, parameter adjustments, and recalibration. Maintain dosimetry instruments and oversee HDR (High Dose Rate) Remote Afterloader and Stereotactic Radiosurgery programs, which encompass planning and assisting in the execution of all cases, as well as conducting quality assurance on equipment and software.
Conduct dosimetry for specialized implants, including Vascular Brachytherapy and Cesium-137 Gynecological implants. Engage in advanced dosimetry processes, including the qualification of linear accelerators and treatment planning. Participate in all aspects of radiation safety within the radiation oncology department, staying informed about new regulatory requirements and ensuring compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations.
Manage the Stereotactic Radiosurgery Program, which includes planning and assisting in the execution of all cases and performing quality assurance on devices and software. Interpret and implement physician orders while performing secondary calculations on all dosimetry calculations. Utilize appropriate body mechanics when moving and positioning patients. Maintain regular and prompt attendance and demonstrate the ability to work as scheduled, including additional hours as necessary. Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
A Master's degree in medical physics or a closely related field from an accredited institution recognized by the University of South Alabama, along with three years of experience in radiation oncology and certification from the American Board of Radiology as a Medical Physicist, is required.
A Ph.D. in medical physics or a related field is preferred.
