We are seeking a skilled Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join a developing cardiothoracic surgery program in a community hospital environment.

This role offers the unique opportunity to collaborate with a seasoned Cardiothoracic Surgeon in establishing and enhancing a new surgical program, providing patients with care comparable to that of major hospitals.

The selected candidate will engage with cardiothoracic surgery patients throughout their care journey, including:

  • First assisting in the operating room
  • ICU and inpatient rounding for cardiac surgery
  • Management of test results in the outpatient clinic
  • Collaborative management of ICU patients alongside the surgeon and intensivist
  • Reviewing patient results and managing pre-operative patients through EPIC in-baskets
  • Occasional follow-up visits in the outpatient clinic for post-operative care

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position with a Monday to Friday schedule, including rotating weekends. On-call duties are required approximately every third day and every third weekend, with evening calls extending until 7 AM the following morning. On-call staff will receive time off during the week.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
  • For Nurse Practitioners, RN FIRST ASSIST certification and ACUTE CARE certification are mandatory
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Illinois
  • Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a recognized national certifying body
  • Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program and current licensure as a Physician's Assistant in Illinois
  • Experience in cardiovascular or surgical settings is essential, along with proficiency in endoscopic vein harvesting
