About the Role

We're seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter to join our E&S Binding team at The Hartford. As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for underwriting complex business and providing creative solutions to meet the demands of our dynamic small business excess market.

Key Responsibilities
  • Referral Underwriter for a geographic book of business
  • Analyze geographic and individual books on a quarter-to-quarter basis for potential action, identifying quality management concerns and addressing them appropriately
  • Apply underwriting guidelines expertly when making decisions
  • Underwrite highly complex business with limited support from leadership and infrequent referral activity
  • Manage broker relationships, creating and executing strategies for new business growth and renewal retention
  • Act as a trusted advisor and solution provider to brokers
  • Partner with E&S Binding Underwriting & Sales leadership to identify trends and recommend enhancements for increased profitable growth
  • Travel up to 25% within the territory
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 3+ years of underwriting experience, with excess and surplus experience preferred
  • Experience working with wholesale insurance brokers preferred
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with internal and external business partners
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to think analytically and make recommendations
  • High energy self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Strong time, organizational, and desk management skills
  • Goal-oriented and delivers outcomes
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win
  • Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making and analytical skills
Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is $81,120 - $121,680, with additional rewards including short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
