Job Overview

This role is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1547 (Technicians) and adheres to the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 1547 (Technicians).

DEPARTMENT: Public Transportation
HOURS OF WORK: Shifts Vary - schedules based on seniority: 40 hours per week within Monday through Sunday
WORK RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accountable for the thorough inspection, documentation, and repair of buses, light-duty vehicles, and equipment affected by accidents or wear and tear. Duties include but are not limited to the repair, rebuilding, fabrication, and/or replacement of bumpers, window glass, body panels, fiberglass components, flooring, sheet metal work, and frame straightening on Transit buses and other vehicles utilized by the Public Transportation Department.

Prepare surfaces and apply various paints to achieve a professional finish on repaired areas. Proficient in welding techniques including MIG, TIG, and oxygen/acetylene, as well as fabricating parts and components using diverse materials and methods.

Utilize Municipality of Anchorage Maintenance Management Software (MMS) to document work performed and accurately identify and request necessary parts. Employ MS Excel to create detailed and precise repair estimates for vehicles damaged in incidents.

Utilize a variety of specialized hand and power tools to execute repairs and replace damaged components. Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and supervisors to foster a safe and harmonious work environment. Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of shop work areas. Adhere to regular time and attendance standards.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and completion of an approved body and paint apprenticeship program, along with four (4) years of journeyman level body and paint experience.

OR

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and five (5) years of journeyman level body and paint experience.

Required Certifications:
  • Valid State of Alaska OHSA Respirator Certification
  • Valid State of Alaska Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Hazardous Painting Certification
Additional Requirements:
  • Valid driver's license at the time of application.
  • At time of hire - Valid State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction.
Preferences:
  • OSHA 30 hour General Industry Certificate
  • OSHA Forklift Certification
  • ASE Collision Repair & Refinish Certification

The Municipality Of Anchorage participates in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security E-verify Program.

Appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check.

As a condition of employment, the selected individual will be required to successfully complete a medical physical and functional capacity examination and will also be required to successfully complete a drug test prior to beginning work.
