Position Overview:
As a vital member of the Plastics division, you will be responsible for evaluating the existing manufacturing capabilities of Tesla's plastic processes. Your role will involve formulating a comprehensive manufacturing and capacity strategy for plastic components that cater to both current and future product lines.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and enhance the methods utilized for manufacturing plastic components.
- Spearhead equipment capacity and capability upgrades to optimize production.
- Integrate manufacturing insights into the design phase to ensure components are designed for efficient processing through molding and assembly.
- Oversee capital cost, scheduling, and labor planning for new facilities and product launches.
- Provide innovative technical solutions while leading engineering subcontractors in the design, layout, and construction of new plastics equipment.
- Investigate and evaluate emerging plastics equipment technologies to implement non-standard solutions that have not been utilized in production settings.

Process Optimization:
- Commission molding processes and equipment through factory and site acceptance testing.
- Collaborate with design and vehicle quality teams to enhance part appearance standards.
- Utilize a data-driven approach to refine molding processes, ensuring they meet quality and production targets.
- Define facility requirements for plastics molding processes and support all engineering builds to validate scalability.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with plastics molding processes and equipment.
- In-depth knowledge of plastics molding process variables and their effects on throughput, quality, and yield rates.
- Proficiency in equipment design, mold design, controls, and the setup and validation of robotic cells.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, statistical process control, design of experiments, and simulation techniques.

Skills:
- Understanding of Design for Assembly (DFM), facility design principles, and lean manufacturing techniques.
- Ability to apply engineering principles to identify and implement innovative solutions to manufacturing challenges.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for collaboration with internal teams and external vendors.
- Capable of providing clear technical guidance to external engineering resources, including equipment vendors and suppliers.
- Adaptable to a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision and willingness to travel as required.
