Position Summary

Dog Trainers play a crucial role in assisting pet owners in the training of their dogs.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of our Dog Trainers involve assessing canine dispositions and temperaments, providing regular updates on progress to clients, and instructing owners on how to reinforce positive behaviors. Additionally, trainers should be prepared to address client inquiries regarding training techniques, behavioral challenges, and service pricing.

This position typically requires the capability to perform the following tasks:

  • Utilizing operant conditioning techniques
  • Implementing positive reinforcement strategies
  • Employing clicker training methods
  • Using hand signals effectively
  • Issuing voice commands
  • Establishing reward systems

Our trainers apply these methods to foster new or enhanced behaviors. They will also monitor the dog's progress and guide owners on how to maintain these training techniques at home. Sensitivity to the needs of both the owner and the dog is essential, as is the ability to emphasize the owner's role in the ongoing training process.

Daily Duties Include:

Working with Dogs:

  • Recognizing and understanding canine behaviors
  • Independently executing tasks with dogs in real-world scenarios
  • Collaborating as a team to achieve training goals through consistent communication
  • Properly fitting and removing collars and leashes
  • Attaching and charging GPS collars for tracking
  • Feeding dogs according to established schedules
  • Taking dogs outside for bathroom breaks multiple times daily
  • Administering medications as prescribed
  • Bathing dogs when necessary
  • Providing timely updates to clients regarding their dog's progress
  • Ensuring the safety of dogs when unsupervised

Client Interaction:

  • Conducting one-on-one sessions with individual owners and their dogs
  • Updating clients on training progress as per company policy
  • Participating in events, shows, or marketing initiatives as a representative of Off-Leash K9 Training
  • Scheduling appointments in accordance with standard operating procedures
  • Engaging with clients through various communication channels in a professional manner

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Managing inventory of cleaning supplies, training tools, and medical items
  • Securing the facility at the end of the day and setting the alarm system
  • Maintaining accountability for assigned equipment
  • Documenting medication and food logs
  • Utilizing technology to track individual dog progress
  • Implementing training methods as instructed by Off-Leash K9 Training
  • Understanding and adhering to company policies
  • Completing necessary paperwork accurately

Facility Maintenance:

  • Promptly cleaning up after any canine accidents
  • Sanitizing dog kennels and training areas
  • Maintaining cleanliness in common areas

Working with dogs involves physical challenges, including the necessity to clean up after them. Trainers should be prepared for outdoor work and the potential for messy situations.
