Position Overview:

Director of Legal Services

Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Director of Legal Services is responsible for providing comprehensive legal guidance to the leadership team, including the Board of Directors and staff. This role demands a seasoned attorney with extensive expertise across a spectrum of legal issues, encompassing governmental regulations, real estate transactions, contract negotiations, litigation management, procurement processes, and employment law. The Director will collaborate closely with the General Manager/CEO.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary legal advisor, offering strategic insights and support to the executive leadership.
  • Oversee daily legal operations, including compliance with governmental regulations, real estate law, contract management, litigation oversight, procurement, records management, and employment law.
  • Manage disputes and litigation in partnership with the General Manager/CEO, utilizing external legal counsel as necessary.
  • Facilitate the negotiation of all legal agreements for approval by the General Manager or Board.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of relevant state and federal legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in monthly Board meetings, providing legal guidance in accordance with applicable open meetings laws.

Required Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of state and federal legal frameworks and regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and permits.
  • Expertise in contract law, negotiations, real estate, employment, and litigation.
  • Understanding of local government law, including principles of governmental immunity and tort liability.
  • Proficiency in open meetings and public information laws.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • A minimum of ten years of legal practice experience across various legal domains.
  • Active membership in the Texas State Bar or eligibility to obtain membership within six months of hire.

Compensation:

Salary range: $147K - $168K
