Job Title: Vehicle Equipment Technician

Frederick County, Inc. is seeking a skilled Vehicle Equipment Technician to join our team. As a key member of our Fleet Services department, you will be responsible for performing mechanical diagnoses and repairs on heavy trucks, equipment, and emergency vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize computerized vehicle system analyzers to diagnose problems
  • Perform road tests and operational tests on vehicles and equipment
  • Assist and perform diagnose, repair, and service heavy trucks, equipment, and emergency vehicles
  • Inspect and repair/replace tires/tubes and vehicle components and parts
  • Perform annual DOT inspections on trucks 10,000 lbs and over
  • Repair/recharge air conditioning units and operate an air conditioning coolant recycling system
  • Maintain, install, and remove special seasonal equipment and accessories
  • Assist with inspecting and repairing vehicle components and assemblies
  • Prepare tools and equipment for use, clean and maintain tools and equipment
  • Change oil and filters; lubricate vehicles and parts
Requirements:
  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Valid Maryland class B commercial driver's license with airbrake and passenger endorsements (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 4 years of journeyman-level work experience in vehicular maintenance and repair
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience inspecting and repairing vehicle components and assemblies
  • Refrigerant certifications issued by Environmental Protection Agency (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Technical school training
  • Experience using computerized vehicle diagnostic systems
  • Fire apparatus maintenance/repair work experience
  • Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification
  • ASE certification associated with Heavy Duty Trucks
