Job Summary

The Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON) is responsible for delivering high-quality, cost-effective wound and ostomy care to patients in the Northwest Region.

This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, as well as providing expert consultation, coordination of services, and education for patients and families, as well as the healthcare team.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Wound and Ostomy Care: The CWON staffs hospital, outpatient chronic wound clinics, home health/hospice in multiple locations throughout the region.
  • Assesses, examines, counsels, and determines treatment for prevention and healing of wounds and ostomy care.
  • Determines and orders appropriate topical products, compression therapy, sharp debridement, referrals to specialty providers, and labs and xrays under approved physician orders and protocols and based on established KPNW Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse standards of care within scope of practice.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field.
  • Minimum three years of RN nursing experience in home care, long-term care, hospital, or clinic setting.
  • Registered Nurse License (Washington) within six months of hire OR Compact License: Registered Nurse within six months of hire.
  • Registered Nurse License (Oregon) within six months of hire.
  • Wound Ostomy Care Nurse Certificate required at hire.
  • Basic Life Support required at hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum two years of CWOCN experience in home health, long-term care, hospital, or clinic.
  • Work experience at Kaiser Permanente.
  • Experience as public speaker.
  • Continence Nurse Board certification.
  • Knowledge of Medicare and TJC regulations.
