Respiratory Therapist for Progressive Care
3 weeks ago
Magnet Medical is seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team in Wichita Falls, Texas. This 12-hour night shift position offers an excellent opportunity to work with patients requiring respiratory care.
As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments of patients with respiratory or cardiopulmonary conditions. This includes reviewing medical history and performing physical exams, analyzing test results such as pulmonary function tests (PFTs), arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis, chest X-rays, and sleep studies.
You will collaborate with physicians to develop and implement personalized treatment plans for patients with respiratory issues. Your duties will include adjusting and monitoring ventilation settings for patients requiring mechanical ventilation or non-invasive positive pressure ventilation, administering respiratory therapy treatments such as oxygen therapy, nebulizer treatments, pulmonary rehabilitation, and airway clearance techniques.
To provide high-quality patient care, you will administer respiratory treatments including oxygen therapy via nasal cannulas, masks, or mechanical ventilators. You will also perform aerosol therapy to deliver medication directly to the lungs via inhalers, nebulizers, or other devices. Additionally, you will administer incentive spirometry to improve lung function and encourage deep breathing after surgery or illness.
Monitoring and evaluating patient progress is crucial in this role. You will continuously monitor the effectiveness of respiratory treatments and adjust therapy as necessary based on patient responses. You will also assess patients for signs of respiratory distress and intervene promptly when complications arise. Tracking and documenting patient progress ensures that treatments are tailored to the patient's evolving needs.
In emergency situations, you will provide respiratory care to patients experiencing respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, or other life-threatening situations. Your expertise may be required to assist with intubation, mechanical ventilation, and weaning from life support when necessary.
Educating patients and families on proper use of respiratory equipment, medications, and techniques for managing respiratory conditions at home is essential. You will provide guidance on lifestyle changes to improve lung health, such as quitting smoking, controlling asthma triggers, and managing chronic respiratory diseases. Offering instruction on pulmonary rehabilitation exercises can help strengthen lung capacity and improve overall physical health.
Working closely with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals is vital in developing a holistic care plan for respiratory patients. You will maintain accurate and detailed records of patient assessments, treatments, medications, and progress in accordance with healthcare regulations.
Setting up and maintaining respiratory therapy equipment, ensuring it is properly calibrated, clean, and functioning according to safety standards, is a critical responsibility. Participating in continuing education opportunities helps you stay current with new techniques, equipment, and best practices in respiratory therapy.
The estimated salary for this position is $**95,000 - $115,000 per year**, depending on experience and qualifications. The pay package is based on 12-hour shifts and 36.0 hours per week.
