ADAPT Community Network is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our team. As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in providing care and support to individuals with disabilities in one of our residential facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Provide personalized care and support to residents, promoting their independence and dignity.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of residents by maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
- Train residents in activities of daily living and develop their self-help and social skills.
- Maintain a homelike atmosphere in the residence facility, promoting a sense of community and belonging.
- Attend regular staff meetings and participate in in-service training to stay up-to-date on best practices.
- Prepare written reports, including incident reports and resident progress notes, to document resident care and support.
- Respond to crisis situations and medical emergencies, taking quick and decisive action to ensure resident safety.
- Administer first aid and summon emergency personnel as needed.
- Transport residents to and from work, shopping, programs, and other activities.
- Assist with meal planning and preparation, as well as purchasing food and supplies.
- Implement behavioral programs and participate in interdisciplinary planning to support resident care and development.
- Perform housekeeping, cooking, laundry, and light maintenance duties to maintain a safe and homelike environment.
- Supervise other activities as needed to maintain program quality.
- Dispense prescribed medications to residents, following Agency protocol and medication administration guidelines.
- Complete activities related to skill building, as outlined in individual program plans.
- Attend to personal hygiene needs of residents, including toileting, bathing, and changing.
- Handle resident-specific documents in a secure and confidential manner.
- Valid New York State Driver's License and good standing.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills to interact effectively with coworkers, employees, residents, and their families.
- Ability to analyze problems and determine corrective measures.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Six months of related experience preferred but not required.
- Salaried employees must be approved Medication Administration Personnel (AMAP) at time of hire or within six months of date of hire in salaried status.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports and documents. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Basic understanding of statistics.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to resolve conflicts and mediate stressful situations.
