Job Description

The Environmental Specialist is a key member of the EHS Center of Excellence, reporting directly to the Decatur Complex Environmental Manager. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all ADM, federal, state, and local government requirements and environmental regulations.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Monitor activities at designated sites and implement actions to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Develop and provide training for employees and contractors related to environmental programs.
  • Assist with the preparation of required reports and maintain all necessary records/documentation related to environmental programs.
  • Participate in and lead internal and external environmental audits or environmental agency visits, prioritizing and tracking audit findings for completion.
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies in writing, by phone, or in person for issues such as resolving permit compliance.
  • Travel occasionally for meetings, training, and other business-related activities.
  • Maintain and manage the site's Environmental Management System (EMS), including policy development, standardization, procedure development, incident investigations, risk reduction efforts, inspections, audits, and training.
Requirements:
  • Strong problem-solving, diagnostic, and analytical skills with a results-focused approach.
  • Strong leadership and change management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to act as a reliable proactive communicator.
  • Strong presentation and writing skills.
  • Sound project/program management skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS/BA degree in Engineering, Environmental Management, or other related program.
  • 5+ years' experience with progressive responsibility in a process industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and management systems, including air and water regulations and permitting.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to impact and influence others at all levels in the organization.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to organize and lead meetings.
  • Proven ability to work within a team-based work environment.
  • Proven ability to assess risk and exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
