Job Summary
The School of Engineering and Technology at Central Michigan University is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to contribute to the development of novel Anaerobic Membrane Reactor (AnMBR) configurations for treating blackwater, monitoring pathogens, and recovering energy.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent and collaborative research on AnMBR configurations and their applications.
- Prepare and submit peer-reviewed manuscripts for publication in reputable scientific journals.
- Develop research proposals and secure funding for projects.
- Train and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in research techniques and methodologies.
- Collaborate with faculty members and researchers to advance the field of environmental engineering.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or a closely related field.
- Experience working in biological and chemical laboratory settings.
- Working knowledge of analytical techniques such as gas chromatography, ion chromatography, DNA extraction, microbial community analysis, quantitative PCR analysis, and culture-based enumeration.
- Strong academic record and excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Highly motivated, independent, and self-directed.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in AnMBR, membrane processes, and anaerobic digestion.
- Experience in designing and running high-rate anaerobic reactor configurations, particularly AnMBRs.
- Academic and/or research backgrounds in environmental engineering, biotechnology, environmental genomics, and/or bioengineering.
- Familiarity with techniques such as quantitative PCR and next-generation sequencing.
