Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Bassett Healthcare Network. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient dispensing of medications to our patients.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the preparation and distribution of medications to patients, clinics, and stock areas.
• Assist in the process of unit dose medication distribution to all inpatients under the supervision of a pharmacist.
• Refill and maintain automated dispensing system, including monitoring and rotation of expiring medications and routine maintenance of the devices.
• Effectively utilize electronic clinic inventory system to accurately and efficiently prepare stock orders for clinics and health centers.
• Package unit dose medications, including the preparation of complete and accurate medication labels.
• Monitor patients' own medications and assure proper handling.
• Aid in the preparation and distribution of all sterile products and maintain a clean and efficient IV room according to departmental policy.
• Perform identified specialized level of responsibility, such as Pyxis super-user, stock maintenance and ordering, training specialist, cancer center technician, allergy preparation, etc.
• Participate effectively to ensure that the department continues to be an efficient member of the healthcare team.
• Willingly assist Pharmacists as requested.
• Work cooperatively and within departmental standards within the Inpatient Pharmacy department and with other departments.
• Quickly and calmly answer phones and direct calls according to departmental policy.
• Willingly assist in the training of new pharmacy technicians.
• Treat all customers, co-workers, and staff with courtesy and respect.
• Consistently monitor medication and supply inventory in pharmacy, store rooms, and IV room and utilize departmental ordering processes to ensure continuous supply availability.
• Relays inventory needs to appropriate person or initiates ordering as required.
• Consistently and fully participate in departmental quality assurance and quality improvement processes.
• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning and disinfecting procedures in the sterile and non-sterile compounding areas (as required by location).
• Consistently and accurately utilize personal protective equipment in accordance with departmental policy (as required by location).
• Consistently handle hazardous medications in accordance with departmental policies.
• Regularly monitor for expired and/or unusable medications in pharmacy and hospital.
• Consistently and accurately document quality assurance tasks (as required by location).
• Follow departmental policy for removal, waste, and segregation of unusable medications.
• Identify and escalate non-conformities and occurrences in the pharmacy department and hospital.
• Perform similar or related duties as requested or directed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, required.
• Mastery of at least two specialized levels of responsibility as a Pharmacy Technician required, possibilities include: Pyxis super-user, stock maintenance and ordering, training specialist, cancer center technician, allergy preparation, etc.
• Minimum one year experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferred.
• CPhT certification and maintenance of required credentials, required.
• NY State Pharmacy technician registration (applicable at FOX and BMC), required.
• NY State Pharmacy technician registration (for all other locations), preferred.
• Computer Skills.
• Interacting with People.
• Attention to Detail.
• Accountability.
• Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 lbs. for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
• Frequent balancing, climbing, crouching, typing/clerical/dexterity, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, seeing/monitor/computer use, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, walking, and fit testing.
• Occasional bodily fluids/bloodborne exposure.
• Occasional extreme temperatures, noise.
• Occasional Travel - The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis.

Pay Range

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
