Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Sonographer to join our team at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. As a Cardiac Sonographer, you will be responsible for performing and analyzing cardiac ultrasound testing, including M-mode, two-dimensional, pulsed and continuous wave, color flow Doppler, transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), and stress echocardiograms.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform and analyze cardiac ultrasound testing, including M-mode, two-dimensional, pulsed and continuous wave, color flow Doppler, TEE, and stress echocardiograms.
  • Prepare equipment and supplies according to established departmental procedures.
  • Interact with patients by identifying self to patient and verifying the identity of the patient by checking the patient ID bracelet or verbal acknowledgement by patient.
  • Explain procedures and equipment to patients clearly.
  • Provide for patient privacy at all times.
  • Maintain equipment for proper function and safety.
  • Clean and prepare equipment for patient applications.
  • Sterilize equipment after each isolation patient and TEE study in accordance with nursing and departmental policy.
  • Notify manager or supervisor sonographer of any breakdown in equipment.
  • Document echocardiograms according to departmental procedures.
  • Enter, maintain, and record all pertinent data.
  • Inform physician of any changes in patient's condition or vital signs.
  • Utilize patient chart in obtaining pertinent history as necessary.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of normal and abnormal cardiac anatomy, cardiac hemodynamics, electrophysiology, as well as the major disease processes of the cardiovascular system.
  • Performance, assess, and critique patient's echocardiogram, deciding what is necessary for a complete diagnostic study.
  • Alert appropriate medical staff of abnormalities that require immediate attention.
  • Be prepared to assist cardiologist in the event of a cardiac emergency.
  • Compare present echocardiograms to previous studies to monitor changes in patient's status.
  • Carry out assignments within a realistic time frame.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in a related field and completion of an accredited program in Ultrasound or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Registered or registry eligible by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
  • Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation required.
  • Maintain active registry status.
