Compensation Information
Salary Range: $28-30 per hour
Position Summary
As a Lead Equipment Technician, you will take on a pivotal role as a master technician, demonstrating advanced product knowledge and upholding high standards of quality within the branch. You will serve as a mentor to junior mechanics and have a comprehensive understanding of the standard operating procedures at the branch, regional, and national levels. Your primary responsibility will be to leverage your mechanical expertise to oversee fleet maintenance operations, ensuring that all Herc Rentals equipment is consistently ready for rental. This will be achieved through a thorough preventative and corrective maintenance program, executed safely and professionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and uphold a regular schedule for preventative maintenance on all Herc-owned fleet equipment at your branch.
- Operate and test machinery to confirm compliance with Herc Rentals' quality and efficiency standards.
- Independently conduct routine maintenance and repairs on all fleet equipment and vehicles.
- Diagnose issues in internal combustion engines, DC electrical systems, propane systems, hydraulics, and fuel systems.
- Perform significant repairs to maintain fleet equipment utilizing diagnostic tools, hand tools, and measuring instruments.
- Carry out oil changes, equipment lubrication, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements, and various other services.
- Assist the shop lead with customer damage assessments and repairs.
- Manage work orders and part ordering through the fleet management system.
- Recondition and replace various components of heavy equipment.
- Identify problem areas indicating significant wear or damage on equipment.
- Handle service calls in the absence of the shop lead and coordinate with Field Service Mechanics to ensure timely repairs.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Generate timely and detailed service reports and repair logs.
Proficiency in interpreting detailed technical schematics, owner manuals, and product safety labels.
Ownership of a sufficient array of hand and air/electric tools necessary for most repairs and services.
Capability to operate and test equipment including boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, portable and stationary generators, hydraulics, pumps, and various tools.
Basic computer skills for data entry and system navigation.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating teamwork and dependability.
Educational Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent.
